Nut-free charcuterie! 🧀

I crafted this board with a black, red & white theme in mind for a Disney cheerleading competition. I got real conscious with this one as my client’s request was to have no nuts.

If you really take a look at the ingredients of packaged goods, you’ll notice many include tree nuts or have been packaged in a facility that processes nuts. That being said, careful awareness must go in to an order for someone with a severe nut allergy. That is a must.

It’s the small, intentional details that can make a client’s day, all the way down to the sunflower butter cups. 😋

And there’s one theme I try to gather from it when times feel rocky…

🌜There is guidance waiting to be received.🌛

Whether it’s a “life if too short” moment, a “why is this happening” thought, a “never good enough” belief, underneath it all is a lesson, an awareness to be gained.

Taking action, speaking up, shifting the narrative, it’s all in our hands, whether we actively practice this notion of capacity or not.

Many times it ain’t easy, but I’ll be damned if I refused to see the light through the dark. 🌚

POV: The inner child at work ❄️

My visit to Connecticut has been filled with daily walks in single-digit weather, plenty of hot tea, specifically apple pie chia tea from @ctfable, and so far, two snow days. 🌨️

Over 5 years ago when I left my hometown, I wanted to banish myself from the cold (with the exception of holidays).

Though as always with a fresh perspective, I’ve adopted major respect for the 4 seasons. Winter has a beauty of its own, a whimsical mix of lightness and darkness. Benefits included, I’ve noticed that cold exposure lowers my blood sugars, clears my sinuses, and boosts my mood. The cold also humbles me, providing a friendly reminder to move with the environment.

My environment.

When a cold gust comes my way, I greet it with a smile.

Plus, after adapting to subtropical temperatures for so long, it’s nice to feel the cold burn.

Learning to slow down has offered a great challeng

Learning to slow down has offered a great challenge, and has become a very serious goal of mine for 2023.

Granted, this is a lifelong journey, so I’ll also call it a year of deeper awareness.

A part of me has been asking for this for quite a while now. And that part of me made it known by manifesting into feelings of anxiousness, trying to stay busy with all the things, and inner turmoil. After countless arguments and tantrums within paired with mindfulness, I was able to look inward and confidently say, “I see you. I’ve got you. We’re in this together.”

The journey began by choosing what I put my energy towards - asking COUNTLESS questions, including, “does this really feel like something I want to do?”. Taking moments on the daily to pause, and breathe. Setting aside time every day to stretch and unravel my mat for a yoga session. Carving out time for a lavender scented bath. Sitting in silence. Eating with intention. Walking from a place of curiosity. Posting less. Doing less.

And it all felt weird at first.

The nervous system is an amazing function of our body that does its absolute best to keep us regulated. It wants to keep us safe, and balanced. So when we decide to bog ourselves down with the “daily grind”, eventually there comes a day where our system will feel betrayed.

With transparency I can say I betrayed mine for a long, long time.

So back to the basics I’ve gone. Relearning what it means to rest and care for self. Allowing myself to feel the things my body was desperately trying to let go of. Becoming more in tune with nature’s gracious love. Giving this body the opportunity to just, be.

Zero incentives.

Life is delicate in nature. Life can feel completely out of sorts. It has taught many lessons. It asks for its deserved attention. For me, I’ve come to see the trick is to lean into what life throws my way, and nod to it with acceptance.

Because a greater understanding always lies ahead. All there really is to do is listen.

Only a couple more hours from now and 2022 comes to a close. With a quick sift through the camera roll and temporary reflection, I think of the concept of time. The compilation of video clips is an awareness that time really is fleeting.

This last year has seen an abundance of East and West Coast travel, road trips to experience my favorite artists, and curiosity for the unknown.

With that, I cheers to the memories that are beyond the scope of a handheld device and time. 2023, may you be my most present one yet. ☯️
